Approval of Strathmore Picture Houses' application to build the cinema was minuted at a special meeting of the Town Council of the Burgh of Aberfeldy on 20 January 1939. Astonishingly, it took less than six months for the building to be erected. It was opened on Monday, 3 July, and newspaper reports praised its up to the minute 'Snowcrete' exterior and tasteful interior in cream, primrose yellow and green. The opening film was '60 Glorious Years' starring Anna Neagle, followed by 'Carefree' with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers and 'Little Miss Broadway' with Shirley Temple.
